New Product: The Soilmec SM-4

The new innovative Soilmec SM-4, specifically designed to meet the demands of restricted access and job sites where available space is an issue.

The SM-4, exhibited at Geotechnica 2014 for the first time, has a separate power pack mounted on crawlers to allow independent tracking around the site, with the option of 20-50m length of hydraulic hoses between the unit and the rig.  The powerful, low emissions, 115kW Tier 4i diesel engine is easily accessible through openable panels for easy maintenance.

The compact rig unit boost retractable crawlers and stabilisers, allowing the rig to reach a min width of 740mm and a minimum tracking height of 1980mm.  The casing clamp system is also 740mm width to allow quick and easy access into the tightest spots, without having to remove the clamp.

Complete with a fixed boom the sliding mast has a side movement of +/- 45 degrees.  With cylinder crowd system the telescopic mast has a powerful hoist force of 70 kN and a feed stroke from 1500mm up to 2500mm, giving low head room operating capability.

The powerful high torque rotary head has 3347 daNm maximum torque with 4″ swivel and swan neck for concrete injection.  Rotary side shift, four motors and front rotary protection for working close to walls complete the rotary head specification. The modern and innovative radio remote control system for drilling, positioning and tracking allows safe maneuver and excellent visibility to the operator for both the rig and the power pack.

The double hinged safety guard and slow rotation system, compliant to new Euro Legislation EN16228,  has a double interlock system to enable easy removal of the front panels when working close to a wall, using the already interlocked side panels for access.

This multi-purpose rig can also be configured for other drilling applications with a large range of options such as top hammer, various rotaries, water pumps and clamps and breaker assemblies.

The SM-4 is a compact, powerful and technically advanced with innovative design to allow work to be completed effectively, in safe conditions and with high productivity.
